MKOMAZI NATIONAL PARK

Untouched Wilderness at Its Best

Nestled in northern Tanzania, near the foothills of the Pare and Usambara Mountains and bordering Kenya’s Tsavo National Park, Mkomazi National Park offers a unique and off-the-beaten-path safari experience. This lesser-known gem is a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers looking to explore Tanzania beyond the usual routes.
Covering over 3,200 square kilometers, Mkomazi is a dry-season park with stunning landscapes of open savannah, rolling hills, and acacia woodlands. It is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and various antelope species. Predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs also roam the park, though sightings can be rare and rewarding.
What truly sets Mkomazi apart is its conservation success—especially the Rhino Sanctuary, where you can learn about the protection efforts of the endangered black rhino. The park is also one of the best places to see the African wild dog in Tanzania, and it hosts over 450 species of birds, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.
With fewer crowds than the more famous parks, Mkomazi promises a peaceful and intimate safari experience. Visitors can enjoy game drives, guided nature walks, and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Usambara ranges in the distance.
