This price is per person

Day 1:AIRPORT-HOTEL

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the night (a range of hotels are available dependent on your budget). In the evening you will meet your guide and have a Mountain Briefing to prepare you for the climb. You will also be able to hire equipment if required. Dinner at the hotel followed by an early night.

Day 2: Marangu Gate (1900 m) to Mandara Hut (2720 m)
Hike time: 4 hrs Elevation change: +820 m Final elevation: 2720m The climb begins at the Marangu Gate. After signing in you will enjoy an easy hike through spectacular tropical rain forest. You will reach your hut in the early evening.

Day 3: Mandara Hut (2720 m) to Horombo Hut (3720 m)
Hike time: 5-6 hrs Elevation change: +1000 m Final elevation: 3720 m Departing from Mandara the path continues through the forest. After a couple of hours you will suddenly emerge from the forest to amazing views of the Uhuru Peak. The path crosses rolling, Erica clad moorland to reach Horombo Hut at 12,000 feet after a total of about six hours. Horombo a small village and is usually busy. Many people spend two nights here on the way up as well as one on the way down.

Day 4: Horombo Hut Acclimatisation Day (3720 m)
This day helps to prepare you for the push to the summit. An easy stroll to the Saddle by the right hand path takes you close to Mawenzi. You then return to Horombo for dinner and overnight. p>

Day 5: Horombo Hut (3720m) to Kibo hut (4700 m)
Hike time: 6 hrs Elevation change: +980 m Final elevation: 4700 m Departing Horombo Hut you continue through the moorland passing the 'Last Water Point' before the slope eases as you reach the high altitude desert expanse of The Saddle. The walk to Kibo hut is not so challenging but the view of the summit path you will take tomorrow may disturb you! Kibo Hut is very cold at night. You'll probably have a head-ache and not want to each much. You must drink as much as possible.

Day 6: Kibo Hut (4700 m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) to Horombo Hut(3780m)
Kibo Hut to the Summit, down to Horombo Hut Kibo 4,700M (15,420 ft) to Summit 5,895M (19,340 ft) back to Horombo 3780 (12,285 ft) Km/miles of walking 10 km (6 miles) Time: 14 to 16 hrs Hike time: 15 hrs Summit time: 7 hrs
Elevation change: +1195 m, -920m Final elevation: 3780 m After leaving Kibo Hut in the middle of the night, the gradient increases rapidly tackle the scree slope of the crater rim. The main problems are psychological and you should walk slowly and rhythmically. As you near Gillman's Point (the lowest point on the rim),the sky lightens and rocks appear around you. The highest point, Uhuru Peak, is further than it looks. The walk round the rim to Uhuru is fairly level but takes around two hours there and two back, so only continue if you are feeling fit.

Day 7: Horombo Hut (3100m) to the Marangu Gate (1800 m) ,Elevation change: -1300m Final elevation: 1800m
Descent time: 6 hrs Descend through the changing vegetation until you reach the gate where you can sign out and receive your certificates. You will then be transferred to your hotel to relax and have a well-earned drink.

At the en route lunch stop, you are treated to fantastic views of the eroded peaks of Shira thrusting the moorland ridges into the wispy cloudline. At the top of the Shira ridge the highest point for the day is reached (3840m), before you take a slight descent to Shira camp. Shira Cave Campsite offers fantastic views in every direction; the soft light of the sunset reveals Shira’s peaks and plateau, Mt. Meru in the distance floating in a golden sea of clouds, and shimmering reflections off Kibo’s ice fields.

Dinner and overnight at Shira Hut Campsite.

Day 4: SHIRA HUT (3800m) –BARRANCO HUT (3955m) Via Lava Tower (4610m) (Approx.: 6 hrs. walk)
After breakfast at Shira Camp, you start the day climb walking directly towards Kibo up a broad rocky ridge. The barren looking Shira plateau stretches out to your left and the snow-capped summit looks noticeably closer. Vegetation disappears as you climb over 4000m into the desert zone. The highest point of the day is reached at Lava Tower, a 50m high mound of solidified lava sticking up from the rolling ridges around the summit cone. From the tower you take a gentle descent to the Barranco Hut Campsite.

Dinner and overnight at Barranco Hut.

Day 5: BARRANCO HUT (3955m) to KARANGA VALLEY (3950m) (Approx.: 3 hrs. walk)
The day’s first and main obstacle is the imposing looking lava face of the great Barranco Wall. After a short walk across the valley floor, the craggy, sheer-looking wall looms overhead. 30 minutes on easier, but still steep, slopes and you finally reach the top of the wall at an altitude of 4180m, your highest point for today. The reward is your best and closest view of Kibo’s glaciers. To the left, perched on top the sheer cliff of the western breach, the diamond glacier ‘drips’ over the cliff with enormous icicle tendrils reaching down to the Balletto Glacier on the shelf below. To the right, the Heim, Kerstien and Decken glaciers slump over their uneven rock bed. After traversing a series of valleys, you arrive at Karranga Valley, a barren landscape with a few hardy plants sheltered in gaps under and between rocks. You descend to a flat area towards the head of the valley above a cascading stream, where your camp is again set up for you when you arrive. After a welcome lunch, you can lounge around in the sun resting, reading and taking in the scenery as your body acclimates. Dinner and overnight: Karranga Valley Campsite. *(Those wishing to complete Machame in 6 days will travel straight on to the BarafuCamp this day.)

Day 6: KARANGA VALLEY (3950m) –BARAFU HUT (4610m) (Approx.: 3 hrs walk)
The morning’s short hike will take you out of the valleys and up a steep boulder strewn path to Barafu Ridge. You arrive at BarafuHut Camp around 1200 after 3 hrs walking. The leisurely day at camp will give you time to acclimate and your body time to rest for the final push early tomorrow. The cloud shawl around Kiboand Mawenzi peaks usually clears by mid-afternoon, revealing spectacular views in all directions. An early dinner is prepared at 1700 and then you will go to bed to get some sleep before your wake up call at 2300. Wake up arrives with tea.

Dinner and Rest: Barafu Hut Campsite.

Day 7: SUMMIT DAY
Barafu Hut (4610m) to Mweka Hut (3100m) Via UHURU Peak (5895m) (Approx.: 12 hrs walk)
The Summit climb starts at midnight, under a ceiling of stars. The first goal is Stella Point at 5794m, about a 6 hour hike. The pace will be slow and measured, with short breaks about every hour to help with acclimatization and cut off before the below-freezing cold creeps in.  In the darkness you will pass Rebman Glacier and Mawebzi Peak. At Stella Peak you will be rewarded with awesome view of the extinct volcanoe’s huge crater with the ash pit rising up in the center. As the sun rises over an endless sea of clouds, its light reaching in all directions around you and broken only by the smaller peak of Mt. Meru in the distance, you begin the final hour ascent around the gently sloped crater rim towards Uhuru Peak. Upon reaching the highest point of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak, at 5,895 meters, you can finally say that you are on the “Roof of Africa”. You breathe in with satisfaction, sign the elite summit log, capture the feat with some pictures, and soon begin your descent, as the cold and high altitude take their toll. The whole eastern sky is lit by a golden, fiery glow. The horizon is visible so far in either direction that the curve of the earth can be clearly seen.  Physical relief comes as high altitude discomfort is soon dispelled by the quick 2 to 3 hour descent to Barafu and the air is warmed by the exposed sun. There you are rewarded with a short nap and a hearty lunch, before you continue your descent to Mweka Hut Campsite (3100m), approximately 3 hours. This comfortable altitude around the cloudline will allow you to get some much deserved rest. Dinner and Overnight: MwekaHut Campsite.

Day 08: MWWEKA HUT (3100m) –MWEKA GATE (1800m) (Approx.: 4 hrs walk)
On your final morning, after an early breakfast,  you start to descend from the camp. Discretional tipping of your guide, cook, and porters is customary at this time. You descend through the rain forest. After you reach the gate, you will go to the park office to sign out and receive your summit certificates. A car will be waiting to take you to your hotel.

Route Description:

The Rongai Trailhead is Kilimanjaro only route beginning from the north side, and is used by few trekkers. It joins with the Marangu (Coca-Cola) Route on the final ascent to the summit on the fifth day, but otherwise few others are seen along the way. This route affords the opportunity to witness up-close the Mawenzi volcano, the second highest peak of Kilimanjaro, and the magnificent saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo Peak. Due to the rugged terrain and the limited acclimatization time, fitness plays a huge role in the enjoyment and success of this trek. Each day you see many changes of vegetation and scenery, due to the rising terrain and decrease in precipitation. The accommodation is in mountain tents and dining is in our mess tents.  Toilet tents with convenient and sanitary are set up at all camps.

Daily Itinerary:

Day 1: Airport-Hotel

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the night (a range of hotels are available dependent on your budget). In the evening you will meet your guide and have a Mountain Briefing to prepare you for the climb. You will also be able to hire equipment if required. Dinner at the hotel followed by an early night.

Departure from Moshi at 8am, about 5 hours drive (2 hours on rough roads) to the Rongai gate. After completion of administrative formalities and meeting with porters and guides, begin the 3 to 4 hour walk to the first camp.  The walk is at a leisurely pace through fields and then into the rain forest. Arrive at your camp set in the heather, to your mess tent and a hot meal.

DAY 3RONGAI 1 CAVES CAMP ~ RONGAI 2 CAVES CAMP (11,300 ft. / 3,450 m)

About 4-5 hours trek through the heather will bring you to second caves. If the weather is clear, Mawenzi will be in plain view; a stunning sight. Enjoy stopping to see the exotic heather-zone flowers and plants which grow alongside the trail.

DAY 4RONGAI 2 CAVES CAMP ~ KIKELEWA CAVES CAMP(11,800 ft. / 3600 m)

Today is a short trek designed to help you acclimatize. A smaller track leads off the main trail through the moorland and towards Mawenzi’s steeply rising slopes. The trekking time is about 3 – 5 hours, arriving in camp for a hot lunch, and a chance to acclimatize while exploring the surrounding landscape of bizarre plants and rock formations and caves.

DAY 5KIKELEWA CAVES CAMP MAWENZI TARN CAMP(14,160 ft. / 4,315 m)

Trek from the moorland and eventually into the stark highland desert towards Mawenzi, on trails not frequented by many tourists. From the Tarn Campsite you will enjoy a magnificent view across the saddle towards Kibo; your final target.  Total trekking time is 5-7 hours.

DAY 6MAWENZI TARN CAMP ~ OUTWARD BOUND CAMP(15,585 ft. / 4,750 m)

The trekking time today is 5 - 7 hours, though a relatively easy hike across the wide saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The trek takes you across the massive saddle - the crossing is impressive and the landscape spectacularly stark.  Prepare all your gear for the night ahead, and turn in early to rest

DAY 7OUTWARD BOUND CAMP ~ UHURU PEAK (19,340 ft. /5,895 m) ~ HOROMBO CAMP (10,200 ft./ 3,110 m)

The following descent to Mweka Camp is about 5 – 6 hours. Total trekking time is 12 – 14 hours. Upon your 1am departure, the temperatures will be between -0 to -10° C, and then from 4am to 6am (just before sunrise), you can expect temperatures from -10° to -20° C. The slope is steep, with switchbacks, over loose rock and scree with some boulders as you near Gilman’s Point.  You will stop at Hans Meyer cave on the way, the famous place where Kilimanjaro first western climber described in his journals.  Once you arrive at Gilman’s Point (after about 5 - 6 hours) at the edge of the crater, the trail to the summit is less demanding, and is reached after a further 1½-2 hours along the snowy crater rim (depending on the season).  After 3 hours of descending to Kibo hut, there is a pause for rest & food, then another 3 to 4 hours to reach Horombo Camp.

7Nights/8Days Umbwe Route

1pax = USD $ 3,300

2pax =USD $ 2,800

3-5pax =USD $ 2,500

6-10pax =USD $ 2,100

11-above =USD $ 1,900

This price is per person

This is the route to follow if you are fit, trekking is your hobby and an experienced climber. Umbwe is the most spectacular route that goes direct to the peak, characterized by steep slopes, dense rain forests, narrow ridges, valleys and glaciers. Owing to steep slopes and being hard to climb the route has become one of the least used routes up

Day 2:Umbwe Gate(1700m) to Umbwe Caves Campsite 2,900m
From your hotel in Arusha/Moshi Drive to Umbwe Gate, after registration start the trail. It is climbing through steep slopes covered with a dense natural rain forest, which then walk along the narrow ridge between the Lonzo River and Umbwe River to reach Umbwe Caves Campsite. Dinner and overnight at the camp

Day 3: Umbwe Caves to Barranco Hut 3,950m.
The forest ends shortly after leaving the Umbwe Caves, the path continue up past moorland and along a narrow spectacular ridge before reaching Barranco Hut at 3,950m
Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Karanga Valley (4,100m)
Elevation Gain: 150 meters.
Leave Barranco Camp after breakfast for Karanga Valley. The day begins with an hour and a half scramble up the Barranco Wall. This is the hardest part of the day and in some places you may have to use your hands to pull your body up. After reaching the top, make a short descent into the greener Karanga Valley. We generally camp on the ridge above the valley to allow for greater acclimatization.

Day 5: Karanga Valley (4,100m) to Barafu Camp (4,600m)
Elevation Gain: 500 meters.
After breakfast, begin the hike to Barafu Camp. On the way to Barafu, view several of Kibo's glaciers as well as the junction that connects the descent route, Mweka, with the Machame trail. During day four, hike by the Heim, Kersten and Decken Glaciers. Although the trail to Barafu passes through alpine desert with little vegetation, there are stunning views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks along the way. Try to sleep as soon as you finish dinner as you will awake before midnight for your summit hike.

Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,600m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,100m)
Elevation Gain: 1,295 meters .
Elevation Loss: 2,795 meters.
Around midnight, begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. For the next six hours, hike by the light of your headlamp. The Machame ascent to the crater rim is the most challenging part of the entire six-day trek. The going is steep and slow until you reach the crater rim at Stella Point.
The hike from Stella Point to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb and, as far as hikes go, not very difficult. The altitude, however, makes the hike long and difficult. The crater rim hike takes approximately forty-five minutes. Upon reaching Uhuru, take photos of your guide and group at the peak before beginning the descent to Mweka Camp. On the way down from Uhuru, enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain, crater, clouds and glaciers.
At Barafu Camp, eat a specia- prepared brunch, and take a short break. You still have another three hours to go before reaching Mweka Camp, day five's destination.

Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,500m)
Elevation Loss: 1,600 meters .
After breakfast, finish the trek with a descent to Mweka Gate. Your last hike on Kilimanjaro is a beautiful one, passing through Kilimanjaro's cloud forest. Watch your step during the descent as the trail can be slippery. Everlasting adventures vehicles will be waiting at the lower station of Mweka Gate to take you back to Arusha. You will be able to buy t-shirts and drinks at the gate.

Day 08: Departure

It can either be used to gain the Western Breach route or followed by the Kibo South Circuit to ascend by the easier Barafu route. The route is one of the few where groups may be accompanied on the first day by an armed ranger as the forests around the Lemosho Glades are rich in buffalo, elephantand other big game animals.

Day 01: Arrival.
Arrive Moshi town. Met, and taken to the pre-booked for an introductory Kilimanjaro climb briefing upon our arrival. Overnight stay at a Moshi hotel.

Day 02: Moshi to Londorossi, and on to first Hut.

Day 03: First hut to Shira Camp I.
After breakfast, you climb to Shira Camp I located by a stream on the Shira Plateau (3500m) for overnight. However, this campsite could be omitted to Shira Camp II. At Shira Camp I you will get some magnificent view of Kibo Peak and Western Breach. This walk may take 5 hours.

Day 04: Shira Camp I to Shira Camp II.
After breakfast, continue hike East across the Shira Plateau past the Shira Cathedral towards Shira Camp II. We only gain 700 feet in elevation – this allows us to acclimatize slowly to the altitude. The views of the plateau are nothing less than spectacular. Nice dinner and overnight at the Shira Camp II.

Day 05: Shira Camp II to Barranco Hut.
From the Shira Camp II you continue to the East passing the junction of the route up to the peak of Kibo. You continue on until your direction turns to the South East and you head towards the Lava Tower, called the 'Shark's Tooth'. Shortly after the tower you come to a second junction, which leads you up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 4,876m. You then continue on and down to the Barranco Hut at 3,860m (12,795ft) to enjoy a well-deserved rest, evening meal and overnight camp. Total walking time around 6 hours.

Day 06: Barranco to Barafu Hut.
After breakfast, you leave the Barranco Hut to ascend a steep ridge, which passes the Barranco Wall in the Karanga Valley. Here you meet up with the top part of the Mweka trail and continue up to the Barafu Hut at 4,600m (15,500ft). This is your high camp from where the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo can be seen. The rest and evening meal will be very welcome after a walking day of around 8 hours.

Day 07: Barafu to Summit, and descend to Mweka Hut.
SUMMIT DAY: Very early in the morning you make your way slowly up to Stella Point at 5,745m before making the final traverse to the Uhuru Peak, highest point in the continent of Africa, at 5,985m (19,340ft). This ascent will take around 6 hours. Views of the plains and Mount Meru in the early morning sunlight are possible before any cloud drifts up from the steamy jungle below. From the summit you now make your descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp at 3,100m. This descent should take around 5 hours and you can take pleasure in a well-deserved rest and final evening meal on the mountain.

Day 08: Mweka hut to Mweka Gate.
After a comparatively late breakfast you continue the descent down through the rain forest to the Mweka Park Gate. This takes around 4 hours. At the Park Gates you will be met by the guides’ vehicle to travel back to Moshi for overnight.

Day 09: Departure.
After breakfast, departure back home or next destination.
